Big Ten’s Northwestern Visits Obama

Written by Tayaunna Jackson and Melissa Suhoski

Located right outside Chicago, Northwestern University is a very prestigious school. If you are someone who is a top-notch student and excels in not only academics, but also sports, then Northwestern is one school to take into consideration.

Shannon Kennedy, a representative from Northwestern University paid a visit to Pittsburgh Obama/Schenley on Tuesday, October 26th. One major issue Shannon brought to our attention was the exorbitant $56,000.00 annual tuition. “Don’t exclude our school because of its high tuition,” Kennedy emphasized. Now I know you can’t wrap your mind around that price, but NU offers financial aid to anyone and everyone. They offer approximately $94 million per year and students can also take out a loan of $20,000.00. Often times, the most needy students have graduated without paying tuition, but instead using grants and scholarships.

There are a numerous classes, clubs, and sports for countless interests. Northwestern University has six different fields of study; Arts & Sciences, Communication, Engineering, Journalism, Music, and Education. In particular, its Journalism program is nationally recognized. If you are passionate about more than one major, then the school works around your schedule. Instead of having two semesters per year, there are three quarters per year.

Like Johns Hopkins before it, Northwestern doesn’t visit just any high school. Certainly, the fact that our school is an International Baccalaureate school denotes the idea of high achieving students. As for the price of a Northwestern, remember…

The price may be extremely high, but think about it…can you really put a price on an outstanding education to start the rest of your life???
