Petri–Things I think I think–Once an Eagle, always an Eagle

Written by Donovan Petri

Editor’s Note: When we last heard from Donovan Petri, he was wishing his classmates and readers well, challenging his fellow columnists, professing his love of candy and promising that Eagle readers had not heard the last of him. Because it’s late summer and The Eagle staff really hasn’t switched out of summer vacation mode just yet, we present Donovan’s latest column as a reminder.

Well the summer’s almost over and the gloomy shadow of school will soon be upon us, so what do I decide to do at 2:05 on a Tuesday morning, when my cousin is in the other room watching some movie that I’ve never heard of?

I decide to talk to you, oh precious readers, via the column Things I think I think. The reason you ask? Well, when I went and looked at our newspaper today I saw only columns by Caz, and they were all about comic books.

Comic books?

I just thought  that what we need is a view of counter culture, so here I am, writing with a head deprived of sleep and a mind that was just stolen by the famous gonzo journalist style created by Hunter S. Thompson, a man of many mediums and my new journalistic muse.  I am happy to represent counter culture once more.

Other than the satisfaction of not letting Caz monopolize The Eagle I have only one more reason to talk to you, and that is to provide you with a reminder.

While you may not see me wandering the halls of Obama… or old Schenley… or whatever you want to call it this year…it  does not mean that I won’t be there. Some of my favorite memories are of “wasting time”, writing meaningless columns in Kocur’s class to get a little pack of Skittles here and there.

And I’m not planning on giving that up just because I don’t have student status there.

I’m going to be like big brother; you won’t see me, but I’ll be there.

I’ll still be making controversial columns that some people don’t understand, and I’ll still be writing with the goal of taking on my fellow columnists.

I’ve decided that you should not forget about me just because you can’t see me. I have Kocur’s plaque mounted on my wall and it inspires me to write for him, no matter what the situation! Once an Eagle, always an Eagle!

Of course, there will only be one problem with writing this year…NO CANDY!  So I have come up with a plan in which Caz is my courier. After all, my house is along his way home, so why not?

In a weird way, having Journalism class and its candy rewards got me to enjoy writing for the newspaper and The Eagle Online. That won’t be forgotten.
