Allderdice beat Lady Eagles 5-1; Woods: “We weren’t at our best.”
Written by Sidony Ridge, The Eagle Staff Reporter
The Eagles had a disadvantage for this game, with two player suspended from the last game (see Outrage!), Leeza Tokarski and Danielle AKrie. Leeza had a rough and tumble with an opposing player, while the other Eagle player Danielle tried to pull them apart. It is against the rules to intervene two fighting players, and not even the coach is allowed to separate the two players.
This game started out in Cupples Stadium with the Eagles fighting hard until ten minutes into the game, when the Dice Dragons scored the first goal. After some fantastic saves from Obama’s goalie Ashley , Dice kept the pressure up and scored a second goal.
The Eagles’ offensive team was stronger when they got the ball and with only five minutes left till half time, Merce (Lemon) Pierce (number 20) scored the first goal for Obama. During the second half of the game the Eagles started to slow down and the ball was held in our goalies side the most. Ashley made some high saves before Dice scored another goal, with seventeen minutes left.
Two more goals in the last few minutes sealed the fate of the Eagles and the game ended with Allderdice winning, 5-1.
After the game Coach Marlin Woods provided some key points that the team needed to beat Dice the next time:
Q-Do you think the girls played well?
Woods-No, there were a lot of mistakes, unnecessary mistakes. People weren’t playing their best.
Q-At whole, could everyone have played better?
Woods–Absolutely, yes the defense could have played better.
Q-What are the strategies that should be improved on?
Woods–Defending our side should be improved on; they should spread out more and cover the corners.
Q-Who are the most valuable players at this point of the season?
A-Merce Pierce and Leeza Tokarski are the best offensive players and Angela Perfetti is the best defensive player.
Q-Why do you think we ended the way we did?
A-We were lazy and we quit playing.
Another teammate offered her view on the game, Angela Perfetti a defensive player had a strong opinion:
Q-Do you think the team played well?
Perfetti–No, we didn’t play well, we were an inexperienced team and that’s what we need to improve on. We were a one man team and other players need to work harder.
Q-As a whole, could you guys have played better?
Perfetti-Yes, we lost Leeza and Danielle so we had to put in a lot of second string players who weren’t ready for the challenge.
Q-What are the areas that should be improved on?
Perfetti-We need to be more aggressive, control the ball more, and finish the shots.
Q-Why do you think the game ended on such a sour note?
A-We were falling back on our heels, we kept giving the opposing team room to score, and we played more of a defensive game in the second half. I don’t mind losing to Dice, they are a good team. But that doesn’t mean we are losers; we’ll see them again.
Count on it. This game, played in a continual rain, provided a great deal of motivation for Obama to look forward to October 5th, when they will play Allderdice again. The winner of 4 straight city titles as Schenley, perhaps these could of bumps are just what the team needed to put them in aggressive pursuit of number 5 overall.

September MS Teacher Feature: Mrs.Berry
Written by Monet Murphy, The Eagle Staff Reporter
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to look inside your teacher’s head? What about Mrs. Berry? Even though she’s nice personally, I was waiting for the sly, sarcastic remarks that used to be Mrs. Berry but I was shocked when most of the questions were light or thoughtful.
Mrs.Berry is a favorite among students and is our selection for September Middle School Teacher Feature.
Me: What made you want to become a teacher?
Mrs. Berry: Well…I had a really good teacher in high school, up until then I had no idea that I wanted to do.
Me: Really? Do you remember their name?
Mrs. Berry: Mhmm, his name was Mr. Orlando.
Me: Oh, how did your teaching style change over the years?
Mrs. Berry: The first two or so years I was just winging it then it was a lot more structured but now I do a lot more group work and try to let the kids figure it out on their own.
Me: Ok, about the kids…do you ever wonder what happened to them after they leave?
Mrs. Berry: I wonder about all my kids, some come and visit, others you just know turned out good, but there’s always a few that stick with me forever.
Me: Wow, what did your students teach you?
Mrs. Berry: They taught me patience!
Now I had a little bit more time with Mrs. Berry so I asked two more questions and got a pretty interesting story out of her.
Me: What’s your favorite section?
Mrs. Berry: This year?
Me: And last year’s too.
Mrs. Berry: Ahem…I’m not obligated to answer that question.
Me: Oh come on! At least tell me what your favorite section from last year was.
Mrs. Berry: I don’t judge my kids as a group but as individuals.
Me: …..
Mrs. Berry: But if you must know…8-1was my favorite section last year.
Me: Yes! What were you like in 8th grade?
Mrs. Berry: I….was the class dork.
Me: Seriously?
Mrs. Berry: Yup, I was shy, had bad hair, wore old clothes and didn’t have any real social skills until the 8th grade…so in short 6th and 7th grade were the worst years of my life.
Me: What about friends?
Mrs. Berry: Oh I had friends…guinea pigs.
Me: Guinea pigs?
Mrs. Berry: Yup, I even remember I wrote a term paper on them in, 7th grade maybe, and my teacher called home and told my mom basically, “Your kid is weird, I’m not saying she can’t like guinea pigs but it’s…she should write about stuff other people cared about”
Me: Oh my…seriously?
Mrs. Berry: Haha yeah, at a time I had thirteen of them then there was some awful guinea pig epidemic and they all died within a two weeks of each other.
Me: Aww, poor guinea pigs.
Mrs. Berry: Yeah, I had a very dramatic childhood, haha.
It was a great deal of fun to talk with Mrs.Berry and understand her way of thinking. Nothing sly. No sarcasm. Mrs.Berry is just down to earth, and that’s probably why she is a favorite among students.

Ash’s Aspect: Free Play of the Lego Universe
.
Lego Universe is the (relatively) new MMOG of the Lego Company. Although I really wanted to play, I didn’t want to have to pay the seven dollars a month for it. That’s why I was excited when Lego created the Free to Play. You play on the same screen with members, but you can’t access most of the locations or some of the features. I’ve been playing for a few weeks now, and even playing for free is awesome.
The introductory video (played while the game loads) explains that during an exploration voyage. The four adventurers are Duke Exeter, Doctor Overbuild, Hael Storm, and Baron Typhonus. They find the Nexus Force (the last source of pure Imagination) on the planet Crux. Typhonus wanted to use this Imagination for evil, and was pulled into it, creating an evil force called the Maelstrom. Crux was shattered into several smaller worldlets, and to protect the remaining Imagination they created the four Factions: Duke Exeter created the Sentinels (the combat-based faction), Hael Storm created the Venture League (the explorers), Doctor Overbuild created Assembly (focusing on building), and a fourth leader named Vanda Darkflame created Paradox (a faction that studies the Maelstrom and uses it against itself). They recruited minifigures (Lego people) from all over the Universe to help them, which is where players come in.
The game begins on a ship called the Venture Explorer, which is about to crash after being damaged by the Maelstrom. Here you are just a basic minifigure (with no accessories such as armor or weapons), made to your specifications at log-in. You have to build a rocket from pieces you get by smashing boxes located around the ship. You also have to collect imagination points, which allow you to build items built into the game. After talking to a person named Sky Lane, you get a builder’s hat which allows you to assemble your rocket. After doing this, you climb into your rocket and fly to the first world, called Avant Gardens (the worlds are more like islands in space, and only have one side, so you can’t walk all the way around one and get to the same place). There you talk to a Paradox member called Wisp Lee. He tells you that a Paradox research facility has been overrun by the Maelstrom, which has taken over the island. He sends you to talk to a Sentinel in a small defense system. He explains more of the situation to you and sends you to destroy fifteen Stromlings, which are skeletal minifigures created by the Maelstrom, after giving you a basic weapon (a sword, a spear, or a war hammer). During the mission, you also encounter Stromling Mechs, Maelstrom-infected security bots.
After completing this task, he sends you to talk to Beck Strongheart, a Sentinel general, in Sentinel Base Camp, a fortified defense to fight Stromlings. He gives you body armor and a helmet and introduces you to the vendor, who sells new weapons and kits to heal yourself and repair your armor. He sends you to the survival mini-game, where you have to last at least 3 minutes fighting Stromlings, Stromling Mechs, Dark Spiderlings (spider-like Maelstrom creatures), and other various Maelstrom creatures. Strongheart sends you back to Wisp Lee, who gives you a Maelstrom vacuum to collect Maelstrom essence and create your own Dark Spiderling inside one of the remaining cages of the research facility. You are then sent to gather information on the whereabouts of a large Maelstrom monster, called the Spider Queen. To do this, you go to a place called the Spider Caverns, which is filled with Dark Spiderlings. You are loaned a trial set of Faction armor (you can only get full Faction gear with a membership). Once you discover that the Spider Queen is in the Block Yard (another, smaller island), you go back to Beck Strongheart, who sends you to a place called the Monument, which depicts a scene of a minifigure battling a Stromling. A minifigure named Rusty Steele sends you on various missions up the Monument and ultimately to a Sentinel on a section of broken highway.
After this, you go down the highway to the launch pad to the Block Yard. Once there, you are given another trial pair of Faction gear to fight the Spider Queen there. After defeating her, you secure a property on the Block Yard where you can use models and behaviors (collected by completing missions and destroying enemies) to create your own “home” (in my case, castle-based). You can also create your own models by using bricks also collected by smashing enemies. After you finish there, you go back to the launch pad, where you can now access a variety of new vendors to buy new/ different-themed models, items, weapons, and bricks.
At this point, you’re basically finished with Free Play. You can still do more missions that aren’t story-related, but you have to be a member to continue the story. You can race up the Monument, as well as play a variety of mini-games. Of course, now I’m hooked on the game and I definitely want to pay for the membership now (hopefully I’ll succeed).

Jordan McDonald-Living on th Edge:Is College all that it’s cracked up to be?
.
College – A Good Idea, or Not?
We all have that one family member who thinks that college is necessary for any job choice. What they don’t realize is that if you want a job that doesn’t require a job interview (any career in entertainment), chances are, it doesn’t require a college degree.
I’m sick of seeing musicians with degrees in psychology. If you’re going to get a degree in a high-profile field, why would you become a musician? It’s ridiculous.
The only time it would make sense to get a degree is if you become a movie star, especially if you go to an art school, but again, any other career in entertainment doesn’t require a college degree. You’re just making things harder on yourself. If you’re going to get a degree, then do something with it. Don’t just get it, have it sit it on your mantle to collect dust, then go off and become a singer. If you’re interested in stand-up comedy like I am, then instead of spending 4 years in college, it would be better to spend four years honing your humor and working on your career.
I’m not saying college is terrible, but I am saying that don’t waste at least 4 years of your life getting a piece of paper that you’ll never use.

Jordan McDonald’s Living on the Edge- Cancer Pills?!
.
I’ve been worrying lately. Worrying about my future, about what I’ll have to deal with, but most importantly, I’m worried about what problems age will bring.
We look at our grandparents, the struggles they go through, the problems they face, but lately, I’ve been worrying about what problems await them daily when they reach for the medicine cabinet.
When you’re young, you only need medicine for certain occasions, but as you get older, it becomes unavoidable. What’s worse is that on top of the ultra-painful conditions they have, side effects only make it worse. Why is it that in every medicine, the side effects are worse than the symptom drug is trying to help? As the great comedian Katt Williams once said, “If I’m taking some stuff for athsma I don’t need the side effect to be shortness of breath. THAT’S WHAT I CAME TO YOU FOR!” Words to live by. I saw a commercial the other day for a medicine that I can’t remember the name of, that fixed something I can’t remember. Anyway, the narrator discusses the medicine, but then she starts going through the side effects. I kid you not my friends, one of the side effects was – get ready for it: CANCER. My first and only reaction to this was: “Who at the FDA is approving this?” You know you live in a terrible country when its government is approving “cancer pills” to its citizens. My main problem with this is that when they tell you the side effects, they say it so casually, as if it’s normal for a pill to give you cancer. If you’re going to tell me that, at least have the common courtesy to sound shocked and appalled when you get to cancer, and maybe I’ll consider buying it.
