The Girls Tennis Team faced off against longtime-rival Allderdice for the title of first in the city yesterday (Thursday). As always, ‘dice’ proved to be a hard opponent to beat. The girls made some impressive plays, but were crushed in all 5 matches in the end. That isn’t to say the Obama Eagles weren’t proud of the effort they put in. One notable player was junior Rina Matsuda who played 3^rd singles. Rina was injured after trying to hit a backhand into the ad-court and missed. She tumbled onto her left side, scraped her right wrist, left shoulder, and left knee, and had to take a medical timeout to be bandaged. Despite all this, when asked if she wanted to continue play, she immediately said ‘yes’. She went on to win 2 games and had the best score out of the whole team. “[She] played like a true champion,” said Coach Demmler.
