Football team continues win streak; knocks off St.Pius 24-12
.
Written by Brandon McClung
The USO football team took on St.Pius over the weekend at Cupples Stadium and got off to a good start by scoring the first touchdown of the game. Both offense and defense fought to stay ahead. Although things seemed to slow down at the end of the first half, USO kept the ball rolling in the 2nd half to seal the win.
The defense put up a solid effort against Pius in allowing only two touchdowns. Brendan Duckett and Obama’s own Myles Catlin had interceptions that helped USO keep the lead. Meanwhile, Jaylen Coleman played an outstanding game as he scored four touchdowns and rushed for over 200 yards in the game.
The game was an intense one and USO came out on top. With the 24-12 win, USO continued their winning streak and ran their overall record to 5-1.
USO takes on Allderdice this Friday at 3:30.

Aziaha Robinson: Grinding her gears: I love my school
Written by Aziaha Robinson, The Eagle Senior Writer
I LOVE MY SCHOOL! So you know what really grinds my gears… people who don’t. In my opinion Obama is the BEST city school in Pittsburgh and I take pride in the fact that not only are we extremely intelligent, but we do pretty well in sports. Did I mention that our marching band and musical theatre department dominate on the creativity factor? However, not every student here feels that way. I believe that a big reason as to why people here don’t really appreciate our school and how it’s run is because they feel as though nothing exciting ever happens. They couldn’t be more wrong.
Just like life, school is what you make it. If you’re one of the apathetic crowd, who choose to not involve themselves in any school functions, or try out for any teams, then of course you are going to feel as if our school is a bore. Get off your butt, you lame! Maybe you’ll find some motivation in getting up to come to school if you had a little more to look forward to then Mr. Copich’s bad jokes, Kocur’s morning announcements, and Dr Walters yelling at you in the hallway to get to class. Don’t wait for excitement to come to you, especially when we are more than encouraged to join one or more of our gazillion clubs and activities.
I think another reason why people here disagree with my opinion is because their idea of excitement is childish. A lot of people’s idea of a fun school is a place where there are a lot of fights, drama, and horseplay that entertain the immature student body on the daily, which we all know our beloved Dr. Walters absolutely does NOT tolerate. Every now and then we get a small group of kids who often forget what they are really here for. I know it sounds ridiculously cliché however education is our main priority. We don’t have time for the childish things because everyone here must be focused on the ADULT decisions they must make in the future in order to be as successful as possible.
Our school has only been opened under the new name for a short period of time; however we are already making a name for ourselves, collecting haters all along the way. I wouldn’t rather be at any other school, which is why some may say that I’m bias on this topic. I say you can’t understand unless you go here, and if you do go here and you still don’t understand…shame on you for being a lazy soul.

Lady Eagles softball team has good news/bad news type of Friday
Written by Cheyenne Hunter
The good news is that the Obama Lady Eagles softball team won their game against the Pittsburgh Classical Academy (PCA) Knights on Friday. They won the game by forfeit. The bad news is that if thegame was a real game, we would have lost the game by five runs, as PCA eventually showed up and the two teams played a practice game. I had the chance to ask Mrs. Stovash a few questions after the game about the game.
Cheyenne: What did you think of the game?
Mrs. Stovash: “It was a great game, but I think it had a slow start. It started to pick up towards the second ending.”
Cheyenne: What do you think the team could work for on next time?
Mrs. Stovash: Honestly I really didn’t have any problems with the game but I do think we could work on starting the game faster.
Cheyenne: Who was your favorite player in the game?
Mrs. Stovash: I like the team as a whole and I honestly have no favorites on this team.
The team is young and improving, which is part of Mrs.Stovash’s overall plan for softball.

Eagles baseball team plays to a 5-5 tie?
Written by Martinea Goss
Its very rare for a middle school baseball team to have a tie game as the final score. When the Obama Eagles played the Sterrett Cougars, the final score was 5-5, a tie game. Coach McGuire was pleased with the the game. He feels as though they need to work on the errors on fielded balls. He wants the team to be more aggressive and have a better instinct. Overall he had fun playing the Sterrett Cougars.
