October MS Teacher Focus–Mrs.Larkin

Written by Monet Murphy, The Eagle Staff Reporter

I recently went to visit the newest teacher of the month…Madam Larkin or Mrs. Larkin for those of you who don’t take French. We all can say she’s a wonderful person and great teacher but what can she say about us or what does she think of us? That’s what I went and found out.

Me: So, Mrs. Larkin, why’d you become a teacher?

Mrs. Larkin: Well…I always loved kids and French. My favorite uncle was a teacher.

Me: Did he play a big part in your life growing up?

Mrs. Larkin: Yes, a huge part.

Me: Oh, how come you decided to teach middle school as opposed to elementary school or high school?

Mrs. Larkin: I actually didn’t have a choice.

Me: Really?

Mrs. Larkin: Yup, I really wanted to teach high school, but a position opened in middle school. I had a chance to change but I didn’t.

Me: Why not?

Mrs. Larkin: Well, I took a real liking to the kids, I loved being the first one to teach them, French I mean, it was nice to be able to see them grow from 6th grade up to 8th grade.

Me: That’s nice…and it actually brings me to my next question. Do you like our school?

Mrs. Larkin: Haha. Yes, I love it here. The kids’ energy is just amazing and their excitement to learn is wonderful, even if it can be a bit exhausting at times, I even feel like I’ve learned more teaching here due to the IB program.

Me: Haha, well did you ever ant to be something different?

Mrs. Larkin: Yes, well not really.

Me: What do you mean?

Mrs. Larkin: I wanted to be a middle school gym teacher for a while

Me: Why a gym teacher?

Mrs. Larkin: I like to exercise and like I said early middle-schoolers have amazing energy.

Me: Alright, last question. Can you see your own kids in any of your students?

Mrs. Larkin: Oh, yes. Definitely. My oldest son is organized…detailed and curious while my younger one is almost the opposite but he’s a great kid. Some of my students are like that, if I could fuse them together they’d be perfect, but then where’d the fun be?

Mrs.Larkin makes French fun and is another example of why a great many students want to be teachers someday. She seems to truly enjoy her job and it shows.
