Walter’s Gamers’ Corner: Left for Dead

Written by Walter Robinson, The Eagle Senior Columnist

Left 4 Dead, a game made by Valve (like anyone actually cares for Valve) has you and three other people trying to escape and kill every zombie that crosses their path.  Being as how I beat this game on expert and have received every achievement without even trying is purely amazing. However, it took me days to do it, which, for me is a long time.  Also, I had no one to play with so, the game could have been easier.  With that said, I was playing on expert difficulty so now, for normal, basic gaming.  The first part of this fun game, No Mercy, was interesting. I was on a roof top surrounding the characters Bill, Zoey, Louis, and Francis (I really, really don’t like Francis he sucks).  I played as Louis and I just went off everywhere, headshots all over the place, I murdered a lot of special zombies, and us humans were coming back with a vengeance.  Then, I ran outside to get to the first safe house of the game when a hunter came out and I shot it in the head while it’s jumping toward me. I killed it.

I continued and I made an achievement that other people were having trouble with, which is something I didn’t know until I checked online.  Then, I arrived at the safe house and begin the next challenge where I just went on a zombie massacre in which I received some better weapons. And oh, yeah I almost got killed by a tank. However, I did not die… yet.  With the tank out of my way, I get ready for a huge zombie standoff.  The zombies came from everywhere, through the ceiling, the door, and the floor and I set them all on fire.  Soon after the huge fight, I could see the safe house.  The only problem I was a witch and the only way to pass her was to move around without startling her, which did not happen because a boomer puked on me then, zombies came after me. After that I shot at a car and even more zombies came with the witch after me (this can’t possibly get worse).  I ran to the safe house almost being killed. I survived.  In the next part of the campaign I got startled. The witch shot a pipe bomb (I’m still cautious with using the pipe bomb till this very day) and got hit, she almost killed me until the AI helped for once.  As I got further on in this level I pretty much got confused as I had to go through sewer tunnels.  When I finally got out I was practically ambushed by a tank, a boomer, hunter, and zombies. Once again, I survived it like a legend.   Now beginning the new chapter, getting closer to the end, I was now in a hospital infested with zombies (oh the irony).  This was so difficult because there was practically no space to run or move due to its narrow hallways and corridors.  The worst of it was when the tank was waiting for me behind a door and it just barely killed all my AI in the game.

During the wait for the elevator another wave of zombies come.  With everything going good to bad to worse to downright horrible and then back to excellent, I finally get to ride the elevator and not get harassed by murderous zombies of any kind.  Once I got off it was a new other story, as it poured rain and if a tank hits you in the unfinished upstairs part of the hospital, you can fall off the edges. The bad thing was, was that there a witch somewhere on the roof and knowing my luck with witches, I was worried.  I couldn’t even tell where she was but I could hear her and I could tell she was near.  By the time I navigated myself to the safe house I saw her and had to choose run to the safe house and jump over her or try to kill her. Either why she died, and I got in to finish this campaign.

With me being in the final chapter, getting to the ending I killed a few zombies waiting outside.  The rest of the game was being shot at and me running to the roof tops.  When I finally reached it I began to set up for the largest zombie massacre this campaign had to offer.  After I had finished setting up I found myself a turret and started the guy in a helicopter to pick us up.  The moment everything comes running at me and I set them on fire and kill them.  Later the first tank comes and I made him fall off the roof (MWUHAHAHAHA!!!!) and it was so satisfying.  By the time the second wave came I could not reach the turret so now I was left with my auto shotgun.  I went through zombies like crazy and unlocked the achievement for head shooting zombies, and escaped with all the AI in tack (they were barely able to walk straight). When you escape you can see endless zombies coming for you in the helicopter. That’s all that usually happens when I beat the game.

Jymier Johnson: Give Gears of War a 9.2

Written by Jymier Johnson, The Eagle Game Reviewer

Gears of War 3 is a third person shooter game and was developed by Epic Games   The game had over one million pre order games which made it one of the most anticipated games in 2011.This will be the last game in the Gears of War Trilogy.

Gears of War was written by Karen Traviss and features a variety of characters who are living inside a sci-fi fantasy war. This war has a whole lot of sci-fi features in it including chainsaw guns, and explosive crossbows.

Gears was one of the first type of games to ever feature realistic looking aliens. But what’s different about Gear of War is they actually give their aliens a bit of respect by giving them names. It is one of many games to ever feature a type of gaming call realistic fiction, which features aliens, chainsaw guns, bullet grenades, and 360 sentry guns.

In my book Gears of War 3 is a 9.2 out of 10. Everything in this game is great except for the realistic moving features, like hurdling over obstacles and the melee features. Other than that Gears of War 3 is a awesome game.

Caz’s Comments: We’re talking zombies here

Written by Lewis 'Caz' Tidrick, The Eagle Senior Columnist

What would you do first in a zombie apocalypse?

“Grab a gun and start shooting,” said Farhan Ahmed.

“Walk out in the middle of the street and just see what happens,” said Jordan McDonald.

“I guess I would loot stores and get supplies to set up a base for myself,” said Ash Lanith.

“Well…in a zombie apocalypse, I would go to a bunker that is able to hold at least 200 people,” said Joseph Osmond-Holmes.

Well first of all…Jordan would be dead in matter of minutes. As for Farhan, he would end up attracting a whole lot of zombies and would run out of bullets, therefore rendering his life pretty much over. While you would probably think that Joseph is the one who would end up surviving the longest, that isn’t true. If even one person who is infected gets in, then your entire bunker is done for. Ash would have to be the person that wins in this case.

How many people, if any, would you allow in your survival squad?

“No more than five,” Farhan said.

“24. No more, no less,” Jordan claimed.

Ash said, “I’d keep it, like, fewer than four.”

“50, because 20 would go West and 20 others go East, while 10 would stay and hold the base,” Joseph said.

While they are all decent answers, Joseph again is relying that other people would be able to survive and not get infected in any way. Farhan actually has a really good answer, because 5 allows for quick and easy movements from location to location. Same reasons with Ash. Jordan’s group is kind of in the middle. If he can keep everyone alive and safe, he might be the most powerful of them all.

If you could have one weapon in the zombie apocalypse, what would it be?

“Rocket launcher,” Farhan said quickly, “with twelve rockets.”

“Flamethrower,” said Jordan.

“Dual katana swords,” Joseph said.

“Probably an AK-47,” Ash said, after a lot of times that he changed his mind.

Okay, to be honest…Farhan is the first dead. Rocket launchers are big and slow. It’s kind of useless. Jordan would probably go down rather quickly, even though he would eventually take down all the zombies that attacked him. Joseph and Ash both have good choices, but in different kinds of situations. Joseph has the silent option, but that also means he is only useful up close. Ash has an option that is rather loud, but he would be able to be useful from a distance.

So in the end, it looks like Ash and Joseph would be the survivors in this case. Farhan and Jordan would probably be dead… So don’t seek them out for zombie apocalypse advice.
