Rachael Zielmanski and Anna Bowin: Just where is Cupid with his bow and arrows?
Written by Rachael Zielmanski and Anna Bowin for The Eagle
This Valentine’s day what will you be doing? Going out with that special someone or will you be sick and tired of watching mushy couples doing things that couples do; things that make you regret you are single.
Many couples use this day to show their affection for one another, while singles have to watch. On this day you’re placed into to two groups; single or in a relationship. It seems to be that you can’t just celebrate friendships.
Out of 365 days why is February 14th so special? If you love or care about a person why you wouldn’t show your love any other day. This is a holiday that single people hate because they don’t have anyone special to share it with.
There are the stories about Cupid and the arrows of love, that random people fall in love, but in reality are not true. People create love stories on their own. So buck up man, and go make a love story of your own. Or just ignore all the love and get over it. You’ll eventually find someone to hold on that day during your lifetime. So don’t you cry.

its beating in my chest.- Taylor Swift

Obama Drama takes enjoyable journey to Shakespeare Monologue Festival
Written by Yoka Rooney, The Eagle Staff Reporter
With less than a month of preparation, students in Ms. McKrell’s acting class were able to memorize and act out a Shakespeare monologue. For some, the Shakespeare contest was terrifying while for others, it was a piece of cake. One thing is for sure though, everyone enjoyed themselves.
Nick Nordquist commented on the contest, saying, “I think it’s a good opportunity to act and have fun.”
Not only was the contest a lot of fun but was also a great learning experience. The kids not only had to memorize their monologue but analyze who their character was and understand their scene, which for some, believe it or not, can be very difficult.

Monet Murphy: School is too much work? Get real.
Written by Monet Murphy, The Eagle Staff Reporter
A large portion of students think we have too much work here at Obama, be it school work or homework. I was part of that group until just recently, no more than a month or two ago did I come to a realization: we don’t have too much work to do. One day I came home from school, it was a fairly good day. I had a substitute teacher and sat with my friends in most of my classes. I sat down and started my homework. I didn’t feel like I was in any rush, my karate studio was closed that day, my chores were at a minimum because my grandmother was over and lending a helping hand with the cleaning, and my friends were doing something I couldn’t be a part of. When I finished I expected it to be somewhere near 10:00; to my surprise it was only 6:00, a mere hour later.
I figure that coming into 9th grade gave us all a brand new sense of freedom we never had before. Some of us have bus passes so we’re never at loss for a ride, parents are loosening the leash a bit and letting you explore, and then there’s those extracurricular things you do because you enjoy it. Let’s not forget keeping an active and healthy social life, plus the drama that’s sure to make its way into the life of any student of any age.
It’s truly amazing what the daily life of any student can be like. Therefore feeling a bit suffocated by school work seems normal, because honestly, what would you choose to spend your day doing: talking and hanging with friends or going to class and then going home to do homework? The answer is pretty obvious. I had time to reflect on this only because of an odd arrangement of chance that day but under normal circumstances I would’ve still been complaining.
So, all my fellow 9th graders, I’m going to have to agree with the adults on this one. We don’t get much work and if you feel like everything is piled up, take a moment, get off Facebook, stop texting, cancel the plans for the new movie that weekend and miss that one football practice, and you’ll be surprised at how much you feel is lifted from you.

Jymier Johnson: Check out NBA 2k12
Written by Jymier Johnson, The Eagle Columnist
NBA 2K12 is a game developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K sports. It’s the 13th installment of the 2K series. The release date of this game was said to be about September 9th, 2011 but ended up coming out October 4, 2011.
This game was released for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PSP (Playstation Portable), and Microsoft Windows. It had a little of a cover hold up. Three different NBA stars were chosen to be on the cover of the game. The three were Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan ended up getting the cover because of his history and dedication to the league.
This game was different from all the rest of the other installments for many reasons. For one, the graphics were said to be the best that 2k sports ever put out. Another reason is that they put it out for ISO iPhone and iPad, a simple little idea that has helped the game to become a lot more popular.

Obama middle schoolers score well at PJAS competition
Written by Aziaha Robinson, The Eagle senior Writer
On Saturday, February 4th, Obama Academy participated in the 2012 PJAS Science Fair. Several schools from all over the district came to show what they’ve got. A total of thirteen kids from Obama won awards for placing in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. However student Grant Rauterkus was the only student at Obama that managed to receive a perfect score.
When the participants were asked about their experience at the science fair, most said that though it was a bit intimidating; it was more than worthwhile. The students also commented that they had a great time, and would definitely love to do it again next year

Eagles soar over Perry, 68-58
Written by Markia Freeman, for The Eagle
After the much needed win over our hated rivals The Allderdice Dragons, the Obama Eagles faced off withPerryHigh School. Going into the game our guys had confidence in bringing home a win. This basketball game started off slow for the Eagles. The Eagles started with one point on the board yes, one point. While Perry started with a shot that was pure luck.
Making the score in the first couple of minutes of the game 1 to 3.Perry started off strong but, as usual in our Obama Eagle fashion we showed them that this game wouldn’t be an easy one. The Eagles kept the lead for basically the rest of the game. Both teams suffered from butter fingers and turned the ball over plenty of times. Most of the points racked up from both teams were from foul shots. Donte Forte had a total of 18 points, while Darrelle Porter trailed with 12, and Shane Washington coming in with 6. This game like every other game for the Obama eagles was a team effort. After beating the Commodores of a score of 68 to 58, Donte Forte had to say that he played a good game and he was excited for playoffs. When asked who the final two would be he simply said with a friendly smirk “us and Allderdice”.
