June Student Focus: Hannah Breslau
Written by Kyra Woodworth, The Eagle Staff Reporter
Many of you probably went to see Obama’s first annual Spring Musical, Footloose. If you did, then I’m sure you know Hannah Breslau, as Vi Moore, the Reverend’s wife. Hannah is a sophomore who moved toPittsburgh last summer fromSacramento,California. Outside of musical, she plays the piano, which according to her is “the big one”, baby-sits, takes a musical theory class at CMU and this year took a conformation class that included attendingHebrewSchool.
Hannah has two favorite classes, U.S. History and Math. Both are hard classes; she takes pre-calculus, and U.S. History is an AP course. She enjoys them because they are “two of my most challenging classes.” It forces her to stay in top of her work to maintain her grades and work hard.
As mentioned before, Hannah was played Vi Moore, the reverend’s wife in Footloose. Hannah describes her experience in musical as “incredibly time-consuming, but I enjoyed every moment of it.” She says the rehearsals were tough, but it was amazing to be able to work with the cast and leaders like Aman and Ms. McKrell. She is definitely planning to participate in next year’s Spring Musical.
This summer Hannah has friends coming in fromBoston. This is their first time toPittsburghand she is excited to show them the city. In July she plans to travel toItalyto participate in a music festival and in August she is traveling toCape Cod,MA.
Some of Hannah’s short-term goals are to get an A in math and play for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO). Hannah plans to pursue music as a career. She wants to attend Carnegie Mellon University of Fine Arts majoring in piano and someday, she hopes to live for a year inEurope.

Sabria’s Poetry Corner—Not Me But Her
.
Written by Sabria Mitchell, The Eagle Poet-in-Residence
She has everything I don’t
Everything you’re looking for
She has confidence and grace
A nice smile and so much more
You think that no one’s perfect
Until you cross her path
Her long hair flows like water
While she flutters every lash
I can’t help that I’m angry
There’s not one flaw I see
I hate her ‘cause she’s great
And that he’ll take her over me
I swear she is a model
On top of that, she’s smart
And just to add on to the pro’s
She has a caring heart
He stares at her with interest
Like none else is there
He cares for her much more than me
They’d be a perfect pair
It’s hard for me to say this
It’s me that it will taunt
Its time to just admit the truth
Not me, but her he wants

Adventure to Sri Lanka, Nepal awaits Obama students
Written by Rhonna Ly, The Eagle Staff Reporter
The wind rushes through your hair, the tension rolls of your shoulder, the sweet smell of summer awaits! This summer’s plans include relaxing, eating exotic foods, and traveling. Especially for two Obama students, their summer includes all of those things and a free all expensed paid trip outside the country! Mariah Howze and Joel Macklin score an adventure in Sri Lanka and Nepal. Both applied for this opportunity because the desire to go out of country was strong and plus who wouldn’t want an all expensed paid trip outside the country? They even got the chance to meet people from Sri Lanka and Nepal who came to the school recently. Due to that, both had an opportunity to chat about what the countries are like. On top of that, they will stay two weeks in Sri Lanka and one week in Nepal. Sri Lanka and Nepal are located in exotic South Asia. They will be staying with a host family and observe their daily life. Mariah can’t wait to feel the culture. The idea of being a shadow at a school would be awesome, she explains. Mariah also plans to experience what people in Sri Lanka and Nepal do for fun and entertainment. Although, she’s nervous if she can’t come back home when she wants to. Mariah is also fearful of the plane ride to come, the food, and the scary amount of certain religion that is required. The hardest part for her is the adjustment of home and another country but on the good side, she expects the nice hot weather and extreme fun! On the other hand, Joel believes this is a great opportunity to be a leader and be active in the community. He’s shaky on the living conditions and wildlife but expects it to be eye-opening. “It’s a great opportunity to know other countries,” says Joel Macklin.
