The game on Friday ensured that the girls’ soccer team would not be going to the championships. The whole game started off on the wrong foot, though. First, Brookline’s team was late. Then, because the game had to be started, there was one very loose team (Obama) and one that’d barely even stretched (Brookline).

During the game everyone was scrambling for the ball. As soon as one team would get it, the other would steal it back. In the end, it seems Brookline was better at keeping ahold of the ball since they won 3-0. But, as always, the game isn’t wholly about winning. It’s also about having fun, and I’m sure the girls had some great times this season.

“Do the write things”. To many this is a spike lee movie, but to Ms. Greens 8th grade students its more than that. Numerous of students entered the contest. Butonly 7 of them won. Rose lachoppa, Aaliyah Garrett, Taylor Lambria, Dana Strothers, Ben Eddings, Christan Carter, and Lindsey Brokin. They entered essays and poems about how violence and gun violence effects the youth and how it needs to be stopped. Rose Lachappa wanted certain groups for runaways, people who don’t have homes, less fortune, and teenage pregnancy. Cristian Carter said, “Martin Luther King Jr. tried to make peace, so why is there so much violence?” Everyone had some type of confidence when they entered the contest, and was happy that they won. As the result of wining the students were suppose to get pirate tickets.

The first question asked was what they wrote for the contest. Many said they wrote an essay and some had entered in a poem. These essays had comprised of the violence in the communities around Pittsburgh and how they affected kids in neighborhoods. When asked what the winnings were, they said they were pirate tickets, but, “nothign has come yet.”

On the way to the City Championships at Brashear, Obama’s boys volleyball team was “in the zone.” The seriousness of the day showed in their faces as they displayed their concentration on one goal: another city crown. The first roadblock was Perry and in the end, the Commodores weren’t much of a hindrances at all.

Obama stormed to a 6-0 lead, only to quickly be tied by Perry at 6-6. But after that, it was all Eagles.

Led by sophomore Rohun Joseph, the team scored the next 17 points and that…was that. “We were surprised when they came back,” Joseph said, “but it didn’t stop us.” Sophomore Ray Cascio also played a huge role as the Eagles cruised, 23-9. The win put the Eagles in the king’s seat throughout the playoffs.

Next up was Allderdice. The Dragons came with a huge crowd of fans and were hot after blowing out Carrick in the quarterfinals.

The atmosphere was loud and the teams played it close early on in a back and forth affair. No one was getting the edge and certainly, the time was ripe for leaders to emerge, and they did in the Eagles’ Tobias Raether, Rondell Harris and Dan Goldstein, who seemed to have a particular good time in spiking time and again. In the end, it was another title for the Obama/Schenley volleyball program.

Coach Vitti said he was “very proud of this group and how far they came. I don’t think I’ve ever been more proud of a team” While he made note of all of his players and the leaders of course, he noted the accomplishments of “sophomores Rohun Joseph and Ray Cascio….they really stepped up.”

Overall, this was a young team that took its share of lumps throughout the season but seemed to grow and learn from adversity. As a result, Coach Vitti gave the team Thursday off, but only Thursday. “States begin in three days, ” he said. “We have to prepare to win.”

The Obama Eagle boys volleyball team won its 6th consecutive City Championship last night by beating Perry and Allderdice in 3-0 matches. Coach Vitti was very pleased with how things turned out.

“This team came a long way this year. I have never been more proud of one of my
teams,” he said. On championship day, Tobias Raether led the team in kills while Ray Cascio led the
team in blocks, Rondell Harris led the team in digs, Jordan Pollard led the team
in aces. Connor Claussen led the team in assists, Rohun Joseph served 11 points
in a row in the championship game, Daniel Goldstein was a steadying influence
throughout the playoffs and Michael Wimer solidified the defense.

“This was truly a team effort with contributions from the entire varsity squad,” Vitti said.

More coverage coming soon.

What I ‘believe’ in… well I ‘believe’ in a lot of things, like my abilities. I have absolute faith that my abilities will take me far in life; I have faith that Lindsay Lohan will, one day, reappear in to the glamorous and fabulous spotlight of Show business… sober. I believe, that one of these days, faith will be colonized by a foreign extraterrestrial race escaping the tyranny of their home planet. And I also believe that all people, no matter their up-bringing, race, and past mistakes are born with potential. I don’t care if you’re a schizophrenic or a drug dealer with anxiety issues. It’s there, now don’t get a bighead, ok. I’m not saying that no matter how much you screw up, somehow you’re going to grow up to be the next Bill Gates or end world hunger. No, my awkward, adolescent companions, I’m saying that if we care and believe in our selves we can make a lot happen. Whoever became successful by being emo and feeling sorry for themselves? How about being a tiny bit optimistic even once in a while.

A foundation, we all have it folks, from childhoods hour till the day we die. This foundation I’m talking about our ‘parting call’. It is our job to maintain and strengthen this foundation so that we may build upon it and hopefully by the end of our lifetime, we would have created a masterpiece, all built on a strong foundation. But of course, it can not maintain it’s strength on it’s own. As we grow older and begin to develop our own values and create short and long term goals for ourselves, it is left to maintain that foundation so that you may build and pound it to shape your character. If you allow that foundation to crack and crumble, then it is time to build upon it, whatever you create has a chance of being destroyed because it has an unstable foundation.

Now I know that some of this may not be so clear but I want you to read over this and see where it can apply to your life. And hopefully, I have at least a little affect on you and that I helped.

After yesterday’s game it seems things are looking up for the girls’ soccer team. We won 4-0 against Sterret. In the first half we got a mild one-point from Gianna Griffins, but that all changed after halftime. The girls were aggressive yet graceful, nimbly stealing the ball from our opponents. Gianna racked up another two points and then Keely Brady assisted Yazmine Pipkins in scoring a fourth. Not all the action happened up at Sterret’s goal, though. Whenever the ball headed towards our goalie, Cheyenne Meyers became a wall of steel!

With the combination of our great offense and goalie, the girls seem like they’re back on the winning track! Go Eagles!

It was a slow with neither team scoring a goal, and the only thing happening was Sterett students were keeping a constant glaring contest with our team as they played. Then, after the first half ended and Sterett scored making the score 1-0, we got our payback: Francis Eddy-Harvey scored our first goal, resulting in a tumultuous applause from Obama supporters which inspired Rashaan Mason to make another goal! By the end, the Eagles had won 2-1!

The SNAC (Student Nutrition Advisory Council) is making a move for great health in our school, Pittsburgh Obama. Levi Brown, a 10th grader, is a member of the council and thought it would be a great idea to get active and move our bodies. He stated that he has always wanted to get active and was influenced by his elementary school years. The SNAC club, will be walking from our school, Obama, to Mellon park and will then transition to their other program that has been introduced this school year, the Food Revolution Club, to learn how to cook healthier and teach themselves how to make healthier decisions, which was created by local chef at Bar Marco, Bobby Fry. Unfortunately, the whole school is not able to go on this walk and get moving, but there is also next school year to join the organization, as well as the club. The walk will be on the 31st of this month.

Astrological aspects are planetary relationships in a person’s natal chart. In astrology, there are four major aspects that can be found in a birth chart. The aspects are squares, oppositions, conjunctions, and trines. Squares and oppositions mean that there are conflicting relationships between two planets. Squares between two planets mean that the planets aren’t in harmony with each other and cause tension. Oppositions mean that the planets blatantly contradict and oppose each completely.

However, trines and conjunctions aren’t negative, trines are the only one of the two that can be described as ‘good’. In detail, when two planets are conjunct with one another, they are so harmonized that they blend together. Because of this, conjunction aspects are powerful. However, because it’s powerful it can give people good traits and bad traits, depending on where the aspects are. But Trines aren’t powerful; they’re simply harmonized. They work well together, but because they’re not powerful it doesn’t have the negative aspects. Well, those are the four aspects of planetary relationships.
