Rauterkus Wins 3 Golds, Naranje-Rooney 2 More;Schenley Swim Teams Finish 2nd in City Championships;

Both the Schenley boys and girls swim teams finished as City Runners-Up yesterday at Trees Pool on the University of Pittsburgh campus. While 2011 did not echo 2010 in terms of a team upset for the gold medal—Allderdice finished on top in both the boys and girls categories—there certainly were many highlights for Schenley.

On the boys side, Erik Rauterkus continued to be an elite swimmer, winning Gold medals in the 200 Freestyle, 500 Freestyle, and with teammates Yoka Rooney-Naranje, Ben Friedman and Than Rabuzzi in the 400 Freestyle Relay. Rooney-Naranje won a gold medal himself, in the 100 Breastroke.

Other top boys finishers were: Than Rabuzzi, a Silver in the 200 Freestyle and in the 500 Freestyle; Rooney-Naranje, a Silver in the 200 Individual Medley; Ben Friedman, a Bronze in the 50 Freestyle; Max Okabayashi, a Silver in the 100 Butterfly; Tobias Raether, a Silver in the 100 Backstroke. Tom Brewton took Bronze in the 100 Freestyle.

Top girls finishers included: Alex Davis, a Silver in the 200 Individual Medley and another in the 100 Backstroke; Nicole Martellotti, a Bronze in the 200 Individual Medley,Silver in the 500 Freestyle; Renee Eddy Harvey, a Bronze in the 50 Freestyle, Gabby Egler, a Bronze in the 100 Butterfly and another in the 100 Backstroke and Wendy Levenson, a Bronze in the 100 Breaststroke.

Three Schenley Girls Relay Teams medaled, as well.

Annie Widom, Hannah Green, Nicole Martellotti and Liz Ekstrand took silver in the 400 Freestyle Relay, while Hannah, Gabi Egler, Alex Davis and Wendy Levenson won Silver medals in the 200 Medley. The 200 Freestyle Relay also brought the Schenley girls Silver, with Renee Eddy Harvey, Alex Davis, Hannah Green and Nicole Martellotti taking the second place prize.
