The final year of Schenley High School boys volleyball will be opening with returning players and Coach Vitti hungry for a final championship. The Schenley boys volleyball team is the defending city champions for the 6th year in a row and hope to end the Schenley tradition with a 7th and final championship.
During a conversation, Coach Vitti stated, “Our expectations are to work hard every day, be dedicated, reach our potential, work together as a team, and improve every day.”
With the exception of one freshman Coach Vitti is content with the team, consisting of two 4th year seniors– Martin Eddy and D’Rae Wise– as well as 3rd year players Delmar Kirkland, Mikal Nelson, Canaan Reid, Andre Reese, and Josh Grate.
Vitti noted that sophomore Sadik Roberts– who is especially good in setting– and sophomore Tobias Rather are also back.
“Since I’ve been coaching for Schenley we’ve never lost a championship and we would like to stay competitive,” said Coach Vitti.
In terms of 2012 being the first year of Obama Volleyball, Mr.Vitti discussed his biggest concern. “I want to continue the tradition of winning, but I really need freshmen,” he said.
So as the final season of Schenley Volleyball begins, Coach Vitti hopes to win the school’s 7th championship in a row and final as Schenley High, but he also has an eye to the future..
