USO beats Perry 12-0, locks up second place
Written by La'Nia Latimer, The Eagle Staff Reporter
“A win is a win,” assistant coach Mike Logan was saying after the USO football team beat Perry 12-0.
Before the game I had interviewed Jaylen Coleman and asked him how he felt about this game and about his expectations.
He said, “It’s a big game, senior year and it’s time to go hard.”
His expectations were “to have a good game, read my keys—meaning big business –and do my job.”
During the game there were a lot of interceptions and penalties. Both teams fought hard to keep each other from scoring but there was something about the second half when USO scored.
Kavaun Frenzley scored with a few minutes left in the 3rd quarter and again in the 4th quarter, leading USO into a win 12-0. Both extra point attempts failed.
After the game I interviewed assistant coach Logan and asked him several questions .
Q: How does it feel to be 9-1 and in 2nd place?
Logan:“It feels great right now and their ultimate goal at the beginning of the season is to play in the city championship game.”
Q: How does it feel for it being your first year as Obama making it this far and did you expect it?
Logan:“It feels great making it this far to unite these schools with success and to develop this talent and see what they can do in the future. Yes, I have high expectations because I know the kind of the head coach Lou Berry is.”
Q: How far do you think you can go with this team?
Logan: “It just depends on discipline; we can go as far as the championship”
Q: Last final question, what was the team lacking in the first half and overall?
Logan: “we played a very good team. They came out ready to play and I give them credit. We had too many penalties and that’s lacking something. We need to eliminate penalties and we have a great shot if we do. If not we won’t play in the championship game.”
Round 1 of the playoffs begins on Thursday night against Perry—again—at Cuplles Stadium. Game time is 7:00.
