The Obama boys’ volleyball team were triumphant in a home game versus St. Joe’s. The junior varsity wasn’t as successful, though. All around good play by Canaan Reid and the rest of the varsity starters led them to a three to one victory.
After the junior varisty was crushed by about fifteen points each set, the boys were hoping to see some improvement and capture the first varsity game. However, this didn’t happen. With some nice sets byCanaan, the game looked like it was going to be at least more competition than the junior varsity games. However, this wasn’t the case. The Obama boys lost the first game 25-12.
The team looked brand new at the start of the 2nd set. They were able to take the early lead. However, it started to go downhill from there. They were unable to rally at all due to their poor serves. St. Joe’s started to get some rallies going and kept tying with Obama. Obama was able to go on a 6-1 streak and ended up winning the second game 25-21.
St. Joe’s started the scoring off during the 2nd set. They kept a steady three point lead for about half of the game. Then, Obama was able to tie it at 15-15. Then Obama got a three point streak, and a big counter by St. Joe’s tied up the game at 18-18. However, Obama was able to tough it out and won the game.
The fourth match was very similar to the 2nd, as Obama was able to slowly pull away with the lead. A nice hit by Rondell Harris started off the scoring rally for Obama and they eventually pulled the score to 13-7. St Joe’s started to rally but Obama was able to edge out the win with a score of 25-17.
