Music is everywhere. Some kinds are more popular and some are more beautiful than others. It’s all in the eye—or ear—of the beholder. ”Music for me is global, music is just music to me,” Obama’s music teacher Mr. Savage says. These days, his room is decorated with the theme of opera, and Mr.Savage said that his students had little awareness of this style of music before his classes explored it. When he taught about opera however, his students “embraced it”.

Student Miriam Levenson learned about how an opera is designed and Kelly Kowaleski learned that the composers often add in their own life experiences to an operatic piece. Both students said they normally liten to pop music but now enjoy opera, too.

Each made projects for Mr.Savage’s classroom; Levenson built her project around The Barber of Saville , an opera that’s about how everyone loves the barber. Kowaleski”s project concerned The Magic Flute. She said that she really wanted to “get into the scene.”

These are only 2 of the great projects that you can find in Mr.Savage’s classroom.
