Tuesday night at Couples Stadium, the Obama boys’ soccer team lost to Allderdice, 3-2 in front of an extremely enthusiastic crowd of students and parents. In the Eagles’ last regular season game of 2016, the experienced group played very well against their Pittsburgh Public rival. Senior midfielder Francis Eddy Harvey opened scoring in the first half with a low shot past the Allderdice keeper. However, Allderdice responded by scoring two goals before the end of the half and added another midway through the second. Despite a late second goal from Francis Eddy Harvey and a fantastic save by senior goalkeeper Eli Diamant to keep the game close, the Eagles could not score an equalizer. While losing to their biggest rival was difficult, the team hopes to put the loss behind them as they prepare for their first WPIAL playoff appearance in school history. Obama Academy finished second in their section with an excellent overall record of 11-2-2 (9-1-2 against teams in their conference).
