“We were a little bit sloppy tonight, but it’s alright. We play better defense than offense. Either way a win is a win,” stated Coach Lewis, Head  Coach of the Lady Spartans basketball team, after her team had just pounded Carrick 54-8 on Wednesday night.

With a record of 4 and 4, the girls basketball team hopes to bring in more victories. Every player performed well during the game from JV to Varsity, but one player stuck out above all the rest, Karla Reed. Karla played a phenomenal game of basketball against Carrick leading in steals and points. Karla had 9 steals and scored 20 points, and it was obvious she fought her heart out, so her team could have another victory.

After talking to Coach Lewis post-game, it was clear that  Karla Reed hasn’t been the only star player so far this season. Names of other great players like Taylor Smith, who is the leading scorer of this season and Tenisha Gibson came up.  Freshmen Alex Bowens, who plays a lot of Varsity games, Cori Brooks and             Gabrielle Branch– who is unfortunately injured for this game with a pulled hamstring—were all listed as being key contributors this year.

Although the Girls Basketball team doesn’t have a big fan base, they deserve one because they fight their hearts out just like the boys and are thirsty for a championship.
