On October 8th, the girls tennis team was ready to play. The nine girls– Swata Alagar, Simone Freeman, Martha Yanders, Elaine Wilson, India Woods, Selena Nieves, Ivy Ryan, Victoria Dorsett, and Taeler Wright were ready to take on our rivals Brashear and Carrick.
Each player had a great match although some lost, others advanced only to see themselves outdone after making it this far. Our girls fought long and showed that all that practice had finally paid off.
In the end four girls made it to the finals: Elisa Varlota and Amanda Sokol from Brashear, Dana Stabryla from Carrick and our own Swata Alagar. Elisa faced Dana. The first set went to Dana (6-3) and the second went to Elisa (3-5) and they were tied after a two hour battle on the court. After a lot of sweat and strength, Dana from Carrick was the victor, beating out the defending champion.
Next were Swata and Dana. The match was intense, with Swata eventually winning, 6-0, 6-2.
Swata won the gold, Dana won the silver, Elisa and Amanda won the bronze.
