The defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers have had some major struggles this season but somehow have held their spot as #1 in the eastern conference. Many additions have brought up the hope of Cleveland fans since all-star weekend including the addition of veteran Deron Williams to backup star point guard Kyrie Irving. They also added former lottery pick Derrick Williams to give a spark off the bench. The most anticipated addition was probably that of center Andrew Bogut, who was a member of the championship rival Golden State Warriors before joining Cleveland.

Cleveland hosted the Miami Heat Monday night, and just 58 seconds into his Cavs career, they had Bogut guarding Miami’s Okaro White, whose knee connected with that of Bogut. Bogut then crumpled to the floor in pain and backed up close to the scorer’s table. Cameras caught him telling some of the players that he broke it. There was no way he could put any weight on it so he was carried by new teammates James Jones and Tristan Thompson. He ended up fracturing his tibia and was taken to the Cleveland Clinic for further evaluation. His injury sent a shock to the Cleveland crowd who was without ill coach Tyronn Lue, all star forward Kevin Love, and marksman J.R Smith. Lebron James knew it already, “As soon as the collision happened I heard it break”, James said, “I walked over to him and already knew it.”

There are many different opinions floating around about the Cavs’ chances of defending their title, but after interviewing a couple different people I learned how many people believe in this team. For example, I asked classmate Tyrell Scott how he felt about their chances against the western conference and he responded, “ I know we are going to win the championship. With Kyle Korver and our bench getting additional veteran depth, I believe we are the best”. On the other hand, there are people who don’t feel as strong about Lebron, including my Uncle Charles who said, “ The Cavs won on a fluke because of Draymond getting suspended and the last possession was one of the worst calls”.  Me, as a true basketball fan, I just want to see a entertaining game, hopefully without the same match-up from the past two years.
