As you may know Barack Obama Academy has a program where we bring students from all over the world to our school to be taught by our staff. Many of you may not know that we have a student who is from the upper region of Austria. Her name is Selma Cocalic and she is seventeen years old. When asked to describe the setting and environment of Austria, she said, “It is full of mountains and farms, and has a wide variety of industries and the majority of the land is filled with trees. “

The school system in Austria is completely different from the system in the U.S. Their main school focuses on the aspect of business and has unusual hours of attendance. The hours of the school varies from “Three hour days to about a six hour day. The school is a five year program and once you finish those years, you receive a diploma.

Selma says that she has enjoyed her year so far at Obama Academy and in Pittsburgh. She stated that the people here at Obama are very friendly and welcoming. Although she hasn’t been to any places in Pittsburgh, she still thinks that it is an interesting yet exciting place to be.
