Every neighborhood of Pittsburgh has its central street(s), home to the best places to eat and shop in the area. For the residents of Highland Park, that street is Bryant Street, with its main drag located between North Highland Ave. and Mellon St. Though its culinary factor has been hurt by the exit of E2, the street still plays host to Smiling Banana Leaf, Park Bruges, Applewood Smoke Burger, Joseph Tambellini, Food Glorious Food, and the Bryant Street Market.

Smiling Banana Leaf

This little Thai place is located on the intersection of Bryant St. and North Euclid Ave. It offers a different interpretation of Thai food from places like Noodlehead, with fresher flavors akin to those of Nicky’s Thai on the North Side. Some especially delicious dishes are the Tom Yum soup, the papaya salad, and the Pad Thai.

Park Bruges

The sister restaurant of Point Brugge in Point Breeze, Park Bruges offers similar fare at its location on the crossroads of Bryant St. and North St. Clair St. The mussels, poutine, and tarte flambée are three excellent specialties.

Applewood Smoke Burger

Tucked away in the back of the Park Place Pub across the street from Park Bruges is Applewood Smoke Burger, home to some of the best burgers in Pittsburgh. The delicious patties sent out from this kitchen are juicy, full of flavor, and perfectly cooked. And their fries are delectable.

Joseph Tambellini

Joseph Tambellini is a high end eatery that is home to some of the city’s favorite Italian food. With Mr. Tambellini himself generally in the kitchen, Joseph Tambellini never disappoints. Located at the intersection of Bryant St. and Mellon St. at the very end of the former’s main drag, diners recommend the fried zucchini, anything with meatballs in it, and the butterscotch pound cake.

Food Glorious Food

While not a restaurant, this lovely bakery across the street from the Bryant Street Market reliably offers delicious baked goods. Food Glorious Food is well known for its tasty cakes as well as its Italian-inspired pastries.

Bryant Street Market

The Bryant Street Market is Highland Park’s several-feet-away from the corner market, the go-to location for unhealthy snacks, ice cream, and fantastic deli sandwiches.
