Youth and Government Fundraiser A Success

Sara Innamorato addresses the crowd

What do you get when you throw a bunch of adolescents in a room with prominent legislative and judicial figures? A party, that’s what.

This past Tuesday, Obama’s Youth and Government program hosted a grand benefit of sorts, as many club members, relatives, alumni, and local and state politicians gathered at Mr. Ehman’s house for a night of merriment, cheer, and, most importantly, donation. Turnout was extremely encouraging, and with activities, socializing, and, of course, a slushie machine, there was plenty going on, and each guest went home feeling at least somewhat fulfilled.

Judge Timothy Lewis; Chief of Staff to Mayor Peduto Dan Gilman; Democratic Nominees for State Districts 21 and 34, Sara Innamorato and Summer Lee, respectively; Democratic Nominee for State Senate District 38 Lindsey Williams; and Dorry Lang, a staffer from State Senator Jay Costa’s Carrick office, were all in attendance, and the former four gave speeches regarding the importance of civic engagement, government, and perseverance despite the odds. Afterwards, YAG delegates were given an opportunity to chat one-on-one with each distinguished individual.

What’s more, close to $1,100 was raised, which equates to roughly one-fourth of the club’s year-to-year upkeep costs.

Overall, the event was a definitive success, and things are only looking up for our politically-inclined group of teenagers. Here’s to more of the same in the coming months!
